Eel farm Rijpelaal
In the eel farm, the so-called glass eels grow from 0.3 grams per piece to eels of 150 to 1000 grams per piece. This is done in a closed recirculation system in which the waste materials are biologically extracted from the water, so that the water can be reused. This way, water and energy use is kept as low as possible. All values of the water are closely monitored, such as PH, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and oxygen. This must remain in a natural balance so that the eel feels good in the water.

Rijpelaal has more than 20 years of experience in smoking eel, having learned this trade at the eel smokehouse Dries van den Berg from Harderwijk. "He taught us the tricks of the trade." After copying the art, Johan built his own smokehouse in an old field barn at the current location in which he learned to smoke his own eel in his own way.
The 'Rondje Helmond' cycle route runs past our eel farm and eel smokehouse. Many cyclists visit our terrace in the summer months to take a break while enjoying an eel sandwich and a cup of coffee. Our terrace is open from April to September. If you want to come with a large group, you would do well to contact us.
Unfortunately, due to hygiene and safety requirements, it is not possible to take a look at the eel farm and smokehouse.
