Stadsbrouwerij de Deftige Aap stands out on many levels. The history of the monumental building (from 1550!) makes your visit worthwhile in itself, while lovers of the good life can enjoy award-winning beers which are some of the best in Brabant. The Golden Star for accessibility demonstrates the ultimate, barrier-free hospitality. And as the ‘Greenest hospitality venue in Helmond’ it is also right on track when it comes to sustainability. ‘Do it right or don't do it at all.’
That is a motto that seems to permeate everything they do here. You will enjoy the crafted products at an affordable price – a great three-course menu for only 42 euros for example – as much as you will be amazed by the stunning building and furnishings. There are not many places where you can sit at a bar made from an old railway carriage, with an open kitchen and view of the medieval timber roof. Open for lunch, drinks as well as dinner – also on Mondays! – the friendliness of the staff is particularly praised: ‘The food was perfect, the service was spot on, a chef who is not afraid to approach the customers… […] I have been working professionally in hospitality for almost 20 years now and I have only ever come across this a few times before.’

High level, low threshold
This is indicative of how an over 200-year-old jenever recipe (from Wesselman distillery) is being produced here again. Everything you eat, drink or experience exudes authenticity, even on the way to the smallest room, as evidenced by this enthusiastic review in the guest book: ‘Because you really have to see the building, you must go to the toilet :-)’ We highly recommend exploring the building: past the kitchen, you can see how much care and attention they put into brewing doubles, triples, bock beers and many new concoctions.
