Many a child in Beek en Donk has sat on it, or climbed on the two big bears. The work of art 'The Bear Family', consisting of two small and two large bears, has stood for years in the playground of De Muldershof primary school. The man-sized, concrete and tiled adult bears, who kindly hold their front paws together, were placed in 1978 at De Muldershof, on Molenweg. In 1992, the Foundation for Catholic Education, to which De Muldershof then belonged, donated the four bears to the then Municipality of Beek en Donk. A few years ago, it turned out that there was no longer any room at De Muldershof for the friendly family of bears. The road network around the school was changed and another location had to be found for the four bears. The municipality of Laarbeek, by now the owner of the statues, found a new spot where many children could once again greet the bear family. The sculpture group was moved to the Regter-Eind Zoo in Beek en Donk, on Hermelijnstraat. A small refurbishment later, the bears have been an integral part of the zoo since 2013.
