Lock 6
The Zuid-Willemsvaart, the canal between 's-Hertogenbosch and Masstricht, was constructed between 1823 and 1826. A total of 21 locks were built along the entire route to accommodate the 40-metre drop between Maastricht and 's-Hertogenbosch. At lock 6, there is a large underground pipe to release excess water: when the red lights are on, water is discharged. In 2010, a new lock was built; this lock is suitable for larger ships that can sail here thanks to the widening of the canal.
