The monthly Seniors' Walk goes through nature reserve ’t Gulden Land. The walk is organised by IVN Laarbeek in cooperation with IVN Helmond. Henk van Beek is the nature and culture guide on this Wednesday morning.

The nature area ‘t Gulden Land is still fairly unknown territory for nature explorers and hikers. It is the border area between the east side of Aarle-Rixtel and Helmond-North, also bordered by the old branch of the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal and its diversion on the east side of Helmond. Plans have been made to enrich the nature area with more nature, diversity and also with more accessibility (construction of foot and cycle paths). The first work for this has already started last year and the guide can certainly tell more about it. The nature reserve takes its name from the Golden House, which used to stand in the middle of the area. A brook meanders through the area that bears the name Gulden Aa.

The walk starts on the Havenweg in Aarle-Rixtel, near the marina near the bridge. After a round of walking, they end there again after two hours. Participation in the Seniors' Walk is free, non-IVN members are also welcome. And there is no age limit, so the term ‘senior citizens’ should not be taken too literally. Weather conditions will be taken into account; if in doubt whether the walk will go ahead, you can call.
