St Caecilia blows into summer holidays

The summer holidays are ushered in musically by Harmonie St Caecilia and its youth orchestras. Both the Opmaatjes, the MuziekMaatjes, the Youth Orchestra and the large Wind Orchestra will give a short concert on the playground of De Sprankel in Lieshout.

It is a tradition for the orchestra to usher in the summer holidays together on the last rehearsal Monday. It's a regular and very sociable event for the experienced musicians. For some of the youth members, however, it is their first concert. A special moment! They also get to play with the large orchestra.

St Caecilia has four orchestras with youth members. Three of them will play next Monday. The Music buddies are the very youngest. They are introduced to music in a playful way. For ten weeks, they sing, dance and play the drums on anything and everything, led by music teacher Sophie de Ruijter. The OpMaatjes have (sometimes only recently) taken lessons on an instrument and learn to play together in the orchestra. The youth orchestra has progressed further and is ready to move on to the large concert band.

With the concert, the wind band closes a jam-packed, varied and eventful season. Next Monday's concert will last about an hour. Location is the playground of the Sprankel, in case of bad weather the concert will be in the main hall of the Village Hall.
