Stippelberg Pole, Gemert-Bakel Old border Gemert and Bakel. The Stippelberg post is an old boundary post Old boundary Gemert and Bakel. Zandweg Langs de Palen, here are many border posts.
Before the merging of the municipalities of Gemert and Bakel and Milheeze, the border between them was marked by a dirt road, from Hogen Aarle to the Bunthorst. A large part of this dirt road, aptly named Langs de Palen, runs through woodland. Along this road there were and are boundary posts. This one, the Stippelberg Pole goes back centuries. Mentions: 1434: Stegeberghse Pael; 1544: Stebberchs Pael; 1655: Steeberch Pael, from 1864: Stippelberg Paal. In the vernacular from Bakel and Milheeze the later forest area Stippelberg was called: De Steberg. The former heath and drift areas were planted with pine trees, which were mainly intended for stuthout in the mines of southern Limburg. Initially, the road runs a bit parallel to the bank of the former Witven on Bakel's territory, in which the Snelle Loop had its origin.
The banks of the Witven were inhabited by humans as early as the Middle Stone Age, as evidenced by the concentrations of flint artifacts found there. The road continues through the edge of the large nature reserve De Stippelberg. The name of the nature reserve is not, as is often claimed, due to the ?128;dots?128;, which in turn would be an alternative designation for the many drift dunes in the area. The Stippelberg is the modern version of what was already called the Stegeberg in the Middle Ages. The Stegebergse Paal, the place where the Peel area begins, was referred to as the Stippelbergse Paal in the 19th century. East of this post lies the Paal behind 't Zand.
