As thanks for the support we received and still receive from the residents'. Supporters' club de Lieshoutse wielrenners is the oldest supporters' club in the Netherlands. Founded in 1955. On 12 February 1955, the supporters club was established under the name 'Piet Damen supporters club'. Damen is the most famous cyclist that Lieshout has produced. In 1958, he won the final classification of the then prestigious Vredeskoers and in 1959 he became Dutch champion on the road. But after Damen stopped as an active cyclist, the name was changed to 'supporters club de Lieshoutse wielrenners' in 1969. At the seventh lustrum, the supporters club wanted to do something back for Lieshout. The supporters' club always did something special at a lustrum and thought that a sculpture was needed. The artist, Niek van Leest, already had the statue in miniature. He then made a large version especially for the supporters' club.
