Bijzonder Brabants is North Brabant’s most distinctive vegetable garden. Here, they cultivate more than 100 distinctive vegetables in the open air, and as such have brought them back from oblivion. From Alouette potatoes to yacon, from Schleswiger Schnee parsnip to Little Leprechaun lettuce and from salsify to ullucus: Farmer Henk cultivates the most distinctive vegetables in a climate conscious and sustainable way. ‘What an inspiration and passion and care for the land and everything that grows on it. Henk is a farmer and caretaker in optimum form,’ states the digital guest book.
It is the perfect destination for anyone interested in where our food comes from, but also for people interested in the Brabant Peel landscape and its origins.

Peelrandbreuk
Beside the ‘forgotten vegetables’, the most distinctive feature of Bijzonder Brabants is actually the ‘Peelrandbreuk’. This is a geological fault line that runs straight through the vegetable garden. Farmer Henk has made this fault line visible and perceptible. He would love to meet you and show you round while telling you all about this. But what Farmer Henk knows even more about are the many delicious and honest, healthy seasonal vegetables that he grows. Let all the beauty our Earth has to offer surprise you!

Inspiring and award-winning education
Are you visiting Bijzonder Brabants individually? Then you can visit the garden on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. A group visit can be booked 7 days a week. Bijzonder Brabants welcomes groups of 10 to 25 people. They are climate and nature conscious people who want to find out more about local vegetables. Bijzonder Brabants has been awarded the Keurmerk Boerderijeducatie Nederland, (Netherlands Farm Education Quality Mark) for the engaging way the farming education is given. Farmer Henk has also won the Agro Foodpluim (in 2018) as the first (circular artisan network) WaardeRing (in 2022) of the Province of North Brabant. This latter award demonstrates the massive efforts undertaken by Bijzonder Brabants to connect farmer and citizens. It is a connection that is so distinctive that the farm has even made it on Dutch and German national TV.
