Farmland, fields, grasslands and farmyards are often the link between the city and nature reserves. It is also the habitat for numerous special bird species that can only live there. There is something else that all these species have in common: they are all Red List species that could use some help. Within the networks of meadow bird protection, owl protection and ErvenPlus, many volunteers, farmers and farmyard owners have been working for years to conserve these species. This mainly involves making the farmyard available, making the site suitable for farmland birds and owls, providing nesting facilities, postponing mowing activities or flooding land (puddle wetlands).
Brabants Landschap coordinates and supports these networks. During this lecture, Marco zooms in on this: What is needed and is it enough to preserve these species for Brabant?
An interesting lecture at the IVN building The Bimd.
