Historic church villages
Kerkdorp Vlierden, just like Deurne, is more than 1300 years old and was called Fleodrodum by the Romans. That probably meant 'dwelling place overgrown with elder bushes'. The oldest part of Vlierden is probably the Oude Torenweg, where there is now a memorial chapel. The hamlet of Zeilberg was first mentioned in 1384 and was already a small thriving community in the Middle Ages.

Roads of the past
You cycle on the Oude Stappad, one of the oldest roads in Deurne. The road was part of the historic route from 's-Hertogenbosch to Roermond. The Oude Stappad was part of the hamlet of Vreekwijk, one of the longest existing hamlets in Deurne. It has played a crucial role in Deurne's past. Until 1795, the village administrators were elected on this spot by the people of Deurne and it is possible that justice was also administered. It was only later that the municipal council was formed and people met in the town hall.
Green
The route is green because of the route along the Zandbos, the Vlierdense woods and Liesselse woods. Culture and nature alternate on this beautiful tour around Deurne.
