Huis met de Luts - Helmond
The earliest mention of this building with the characteristic awning (leuts or luts) dates from 1402. The building bore the name De Swaen for centuries. Although the house was damaged during a major city fire in 1587, the facade remained intact. During the rebuilding in 1594, the following text was added under the awning. This house was on fire, in the Swaen it is quite bicant. This text is still present. Since then, the building has mainly had a retail function. It served as a pharmacy from 1862 to 1976. Nowadays the building has regained its original catering function.
The two-storey building is plastered and has a gable that swings in and out.
The house with the Luts is special because of its medieval canopy. After the introduction of the drainpipe in the seventeenth century, houses with this type of awning gradually became increasingly rare.
