A new pedestrian and cyclist bridge across the dam
in the Defensiekanaal near the Vredepaal.
This bridge is the first part of a bigger project to be executed at the end of October with the name: Restore the border posts between the County of Kessel and the County of Cuijk. On this border line, which is over 460 years old, 10 bluestone border posts with information panels will be placed between the Vredepaal and the Willibrordusput in Geijsteren aan de Maas. A tourist/cultural-historical cycling and hiking route as well as a geocaching cycling and hiking route will be published in which the abovementioned bridge is an essential part. A hand-out has been written for primary schools at both sides of the border line. Starting next year, schools can register for a cultural-historical narrative performance named "The secrets of the Willibrordusput”, which will be held at the Willibrordus Chapel in Geijsteren.
The entire project is being executed by the study group Border Posts between the County of Kessel and the County of Cuijk. The study group works under the Foundation History Vredepeel and consists of members from the local history circles of St. Anthonis, Overloon, Vierlingsbeek, Merselo, Groeningen Venray and De Rips.
