Welcome to the Strabrechtse Heide!
The Strabrechtse Heide is a nature reserve of approximately 1500 ha. In 2006, the Strabrechtse Heide, together with part of the valley of the Kleine Dommel, was designated a Natura 2000 area under the Natura 2000 area name Strabrechtse Heide & Beuven. Until the end of the 19th century, the Strabrechtse and Lieropse Heide were part of a large heath area between the valleys of the Kleine Dommel and the Aa. To the north the heath stretched as far as Nuenen, to the south of the Heeze - Someren road the Somerensche Heide ran through to the Weerterbosch and the Groote Peel. At the beginning of the 20th century, most of the heath north and south of the Strabrechtse Heide was converted into forest or agricultural land. The Strabrechtse Heide was separated from the forest area between Geldrop and Mierlo due to the construction of the A67. On the dry places you can find Struikhei and Juniper, on the wet places Dophei, Pijpenstrotjes, Gale and Bell Gentian. The grassing of the heath is prevented by mowing, grazing by a flock of sheep from the Kempisch heideschaap foundation and grazing Scottish Highlanders.

This entrance gate to the Someren countryside is part of the De Heihorsten area, a development area for all kinds of tourist and recreational functions. Various companies are already fulfilling this objective in this area with all kinds of (sports) day and overnight recreation. From this nature gate you can get acquainted with the versatile natural recreational environment of hospitable Someren. You can go into nature on foot via signposted routes for themed walks, or take a walk via a route of the hiking nodes. You can discover the beautiful surroundings and the recreation companies in the area by bike via signposted theme cycling routes or via the cycling nodes. Off-road cyclists can also enjoy a nice trip here via the signposted mountain bike trails. Finally, nature is accessible to the horse riders via the indicated equestrian routes.
The central meeting and accommodation point is Boscafé De Soete Inval: a stopping place for all visitors. You will find toilets, additional tourist information and of course a nice place to enjoy the catering offer. Intended as an accessible facility where you are also welcome with your dog, provided that it is kept on a leash and under supervision. Various facilities are being developed around the forest café, such as the Arboretum of the Bomen Peelland Foundation, a few fens and play facilities, objects of land art, a lookout point, a botanical garden and also extra paths for short detours for those who do not want or cannot go far. additional tourist information and of course a nice place to enjoy the catering offer. Nature reserve Boksenberg and De Pan.
The Boksenberg estate is southwest of Someren. This is a 167 ha dry coniferous forest with pines from 40 to 50 years old, which will gradually acquire a more varied character. There is a pond in this area, which was formed by sand excavation. The Boksenberg is the nature reserve that borders the Pan.
De Pan is a lush and varied nature reserve. An area that is interspersed with forest, heath, meadows, fields and wet areas. The Sterkselsche Aa meanders right through the Pan. Until the beginning of the twentieth century, the area consisted for the most part of heathland. The oldest parts of the forest date from this time. The relatively old forest is located on the wet parts of the area around the stream. Where dry and wet parts alternate, a varied forest has been created. The forests offer shelter to many animals, including hedgehogs and deer, but also the golden oriole and the nuthatch are guests. Elzenbroek forests grow in the wettest places in the stream valley. It is a natural forest with alder and willow trees. The word 'pants' means low-lying swampy land along a stream.
