Heemhuis Deurne
This is the original residence and bar of Laurens Lutters. He was a carter (coachman) for Goossens and he ran the bar that was located here until the year 1936. When the locals opened the front door, they would find themselves right in the middle of the bar. The basement and the upstairs room are still in their original state, as well as the attic. The kitchen still has the original pantry, with its authentic peat shelf for stoking the furnace or the traditional Brabant “flat-pipe stove”, which is also still present. The Heemhuis also hosts many exhibitions with themes that closely connect to the history of the municipality of Deurne.
The building is home to the Local History Society H.N. Ouwerling.
The society also manages the online historical encyclopedia of Deurne: www.deurnewiki.nl
