Rotary club Gemert-Bakel / Laarbeek has started a new picking location in Aarle-Rixtel. This summer, a new plot opposite vegetable shop Power to the Pieper will be full of picking flowers. Anyone who wants can harvest two large picking bouquets this summer for €12.50.

The Rotary club has taken this Plukgeluk initiative to use the donations to generate proceeds for local charities in the villages of the Laarbeek and Gemert-Bakel municipalities. Last summer, in addition to the field edition in Mariahout, an area in Elsendorp was also sown. This year, the second picking garden will appear at the Opstal in Aarle-Rixtel where there will be plenty of field flowers until September. From mid-July until deep into September, colourful flowers will bloom that not only look great at home but are also good for biodiversity

Biodiversity
Rotary has made sustainability and the pursuit of improved biodiversity a priority internationally. That is why the club from Gemert-Bakel and Laarbeek rolled up its sleeves: sow and pick weeds. Nature has to do the rest. In 2020, in Rotary club from Friesland realised a Plukgeluk garden for the first time. Based on the success achieved here, the idea was copied to Brabant in 2021. Meanwhile, there are more Rotary clubs in the Netherlands that have started Plukgeluk gardens, working in cooperation with local farmers to improve our environment. In this way, Rotary wants to contribute to raising awareness that everyone can contribute in their own way to a better environment for bees and insects. And the great thing is that a bunch of these natural flowers in your home is many times better for the environment than imported or greenhouse-grown flowers.

One square metre of flowers please, but pick them yourself. People can donate €12.50 via the website or by means of a QR code on the plukgeluk site. With this you can come and pick twice next summer. Of course, it is also nice to give someone else an original gift. For this, Plukgeluk offers the possibility of ordering gift vouchers via the website. For more information about the action or to buy a square metre of flowery field, all information is on the website.
