explained in various ways. Some look for the name derivation in so/ soe (=water) – ma (=land) – ren (=border).
Writings from before 1300 refer to 'Summerin' which means summer brook. According to yet another source, Someren owes its name to the fact that the brook 'de Aa' originates here from 'Seven Moeren'.

In the past, the municipality of Someren had no less than seven fens. With an area of 85 hectares, the Beuven on the Lieropse Heide is the largest fen in the Netherlands and is known for being rich in birds and has very special vegetation.
