Walking route De Groote Peel
De Groote Peel National Park is located on the border of Limburg and North Brabant. If you are in the middle of the Groote Peel, the church towers of the surrounding villages stand out. The area is 1500 hectares in size and is not intersected by motorways, power lines or other unsightly infrastructural works. Now it is a nature reserve of international class, especially renowned for its birdlife.
De Groote Peel is partially closed during the breeding season (from March 15 to July 15), and also from October 15 to November 30. Wide and rich in water, the landscape reminds of the past. At the time it was a place to avoid, now you can walk to your heart's content. Traces of the past can be found, when diligent workers excavated the peat, 'the gold of De Peel', in the sweat of their brow.
