In that year, Jan Raaymakers, from the Kerkstraat in Beek, was complaining in café 'De Koppelen' that nobody had come to celebrate his birthday. After some deliberation it was decided to bring him a serenade. Three accordionists, Epco Huisman, Cor van Eerd and Ben van Meelis. Corrie van Eerd took care of copies of songs and Hein van Bree would talk them through. And so, in the last week of March, Jan Raaymakers was offered a musical surprise. In a great atmosphere and with the necessary glasses of beer, it was decided in an overconfident mood to come together every month and sing songs from grandmother's time. The Liedertafel was born.

The Night Seed
In 2002 the name 't Nachtpitje was given to the Liedertafel for the first time. This because on the last Thursday of the month, the singing night of the Lodder Table, DZGAKEMV was still rehearsing in the room of café 'De Koppelen'. So the singing started late and went on long into the night. A great time with Martien and Wilma van de Laar as host and hostess.
For several people the late hour was a problem. At the end of 2003 we decided to move to café Engelenburg, at the Heuvelplein, where Peer and Wil gave us a warm welcome on the last Friday of the month. Michiel and Wendy Smits took over the café and changed the name to Naast 't Raedthuys. Because of the takeover of Thuis, it was no longer possible to make good arrangements at the time, but fortunately Mari Coppens of Café Zaal de Tapperij gave us a helping hand and since then we feel very much at home at the Tapperij.

An evening out
The Liedertafel is not an association of which you have to be a member. Everyone who would like to sing along, or play an instrument, is welcome on every last Friday of the month. Singing songs and tearjerkers from the old days. We chat and socialise while enjoying a drink. In short, an enjoyable evening out with friends and acquaintances, that is the aim of the Liedertafel.
