Heemkundekring ‘t Hof van Liessent continues a lecture on nicknames in Lieshout and Mariahout. Nicknames are starting to go out of fashion and you hear them less and less.

Over time, Henny Bevers-van den Baar of Heemkundekring 't Hof van Liessent collected the nicknames and stored them in the computer. Often the idea was to do something with them. A shame to leave it all lying around, especially as there are almost no more nicknames. Often they were serial names such as: Johan by Willem by Marjannekes. Johan was a son of Willem and Willem a son of Marjanneke. They all ended up being called Brouwers. The names Brouwers and Swinkels are the names most common in Lieshout and Mariahout. People gave them a nickname, at least then they knew who they were.

It is not…

It is not at all meant to offend people, but it is a nice old custom. The nicknames that are still used today are usually names in use in the pub. Harrie van 't Dijkske (Swinkels) once made a nice poem of Liessent nicknames, which they will perform that evening. The Heemkundekring also has many nicknames on file whose origin is not known. On the evening of the lecture, they hope to get the solution from the audience. It would also be nice if the collection of nicknames is supplemented. It promises to be a great evening.

The lecture will be held at Zaal De Koekoek. Henny Bevers-van den Baar will give the lecture together with Nelly de Groot-Cooijmans. Admission is free, also for non-members of the Heemkundekring.
