De Heerlijckheid Gemert-Bakel consists of 7 church villages: Gemert, Bakel, De Mortel, Handel, Elsendorp, De Rips and Milheeze. Each village has its own rich history. Each village here is unique. Gemert-Bakel has a rich and very diverse cultural history, which is visible everywhere in the municipality. As examples we mention the procession park in Handel, the castle and the Latin school in Gemert, the mills, the old fields around Bakel, Milheeze and de Mortel, the estates around Elsendorp and the archaeological monument in De Rips/Milheeze.
